CISSUS QUADRANGULARIS

 

Cissus Quadrangularis is a climber which rambles over bushes. It has a thick quadrangular, fleshy ridged stem and their are numerous tendrils. There are small umbellate flowers. The plant is found in the drier and hotter areas of India, Arabia and Africa. Known colloquially in English as Bone Setter.

Used traditionally for a number of different conditions: ashes of young plants for indigestion and dyspepsia, stem juice for epistaxis, stem paste as a poultice for bone fractures and swellings whilst the whole plant is used for asthma.

Ethnoveterinary application: the whole plant is used for bone fractures, hip dislocation, anthrax, rheumatism, sprains and poor teeth and horn growth..
